Exam overview

MHT CET Maharashtra ka state-level entrance exam hai jo State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra (aam bhasha me “CET Cell”) conduct karta hai. Iska maqsad simple hai — Maharashtra ke engineering, technology, pharmacy aur kuch allied professional courses me admission ke liye ek common merit banana, taaki har college apna alag test na le. Exam computer-based hota hai aur do streams me diya jaata hai: PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) group, jo mainly engineering aur technology ke liye hai, aur PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) group, jo pharmacy aur agriculture-side courses ke liye kaam aata hai. Bahut se students dono groups ke liye appear karte hain kyunki isse option khulte hain — lekin iska matlab double preparation bhi hai, isliye yeh decision soch-samajh kar lena chahiye.

Exam clear karna apne aap me seat nahi deta. MHT CET ka score aapko CAP (Centralised Admission Process) me entry deta hai — yahi wo counselling process hai jisme aap colleges aur branches ki preference list bharte hain, documents verify hote hain, aur round-wise seat allotment nikalta hai. Yaani asli “admission” CET ke score aur CAP ki choice-filling, dono ke combination se decide hota hai. Maharashtra ke top government aur autonomous institutes, bahut saare well-known private engineering colleges aur pharmacy institutes isi route se bharte hain, isliye state ke students ke liye yeh exam practical tareeke se sabse important entrance me se ek hai.

Ab wo cheez jo students sabse zyada galat samajhte hain: log sochte hain MHT CET “JEE ka aasan version” hai, isliye JEE ki taiyari kar lo to CET apne aap ho jaayega. Yeh aadha sach hai. Concept overlap zaroor hai, par exam ka character alag hai — MHT CET traditionally Maharashtra State Board ke HSC syllabus par closely based rehta hai, aur iska marking/negative-marking treatment JEE jaisa nahi hota (exact scheme har cycle me revise ho sakti hai, isliye official notification se confirm karein). Iska seedha asar strategy par padta hai: jahan JEE me tough single question par 15 minute lagana justify ho sakta hai, wahan CET me speed, accuracy aur syllabus coverage jeetate hain. Ek aur galatfehmi — “CET me sirf state board wale hi accha kar sakte hain”. CBSE/ICSE background wale bhi accha karte hain, bas unhe Maharashtra Board ki textbook language, terminology aur specific chapter treatment ko alag se dekhna padta hai.

Selection stages

  • Online registration aur application form — CET Cell ke portal par form bharna, category/domicile details dena aur documents ki information fill karna. Yahan ki chhoti si galti (category, PH/defence claim, domicile) baad me counselling me atak sakti hai.
  • Computer-based test (CBT) — Physics, Chemistry aur Mathematics ya Biology ke sections. Paper CBT mode me hota hai, isliye on-screen calculation aur rough sheet handling ki apni practice chahiye.
  • Result aur percentile score — CET ka result normalised percentile ke form me aata hai kyunki exam multiple shifts/sessions me hota hai. Apne “marks” se zyada apna percentile aur usse banne wali merit position matter karti hai.
  • CAP registration + document verification — merit list me aane ke baad alag se CAP portal par registration hota hai. Domicile certificate, caste/validity documents, income certificate (jahan applicable), HSC marksheet — yeh sab time par ready hone chahiye.
  • Option form / choice filling — college + branch combinations ki preference list. Yeh stage sabse zyada underestimate ki jaati hai.
  • Round-wise seat allotment aur admission confirmation — allotted institute me reporting, fees aur seat acceptance. Rounds ki sankhya aur schedule har cycle me badalti hai — official notification se confirm karein.

Decisive stage konsa hai? Technically CBT, kyunki wahi aapka percentile banata hai. Lekin practically, jin students ka final outcome unke score se kharab rehta hai, unme se zyadatar CAP ki choice-filling par maar khaate hain — ya to bahut kam options bharte hain, ya sirf “naam wale” colleges bharte hain aur baaki blank chhod dete hain. Score ek baar fix ho jaata hai; option form aapke haath me akhri lever hai. Isliye ise form-bharna nahi, ek proper planning exercise maaniye.

Subjects & syllabus areas

Syllabus ka core Maharashtra HSC (Class 11 + Class 12) par based rehta hai, aur dono years ka weightage barabar nahi hota — exact weightage aur chapter list hamesha current official syllabus document se confirm karein. Broad topic areas yeh rehte hain:

  • Physics — Mechanics (laws of motion, work-energy, rotational motion, gravitation), Oscillations aur Waves, Thermodynamics aur Kinetic Theory, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects aur Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction aur AC circuits, Optics (ray aur wave), Modern Physics — dual nature, atoms, nuclei aur semiconductors.
  • Chemistry — Physical — Mole concept aur stoichiometry, States of Matter, Solutions aur Colligative Properties, Thermodynamics, Chemical aur Ionic Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Solid State, Surface Chemistry.
  • Chemistry — Inorganic — Periodic table aur periodicity, Chemical Bonding, s-block, p-block, d- aur f-block elements, Coordination Compounds, Metallurgy/Elements extraction.
  • Chemistry — Organic — Basic principles aur nomenclature, Hydrocarbons, Haloalkanes/Haloarenes, Alcohols-Phenols-Ethers, Aldehydes-Ketones-Carboxylic acids, Amines aur nitrogen compounds, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in everyday life.
  • Mathematics (PCM group) — Trigonometry aur Trigonometric functions, Straight lines, Circle aur Conic sections, Vectors aur Three-dimensional geometry, Matrices aur Determinants, Sets-Relations-Functions, Limits, Continuity aur Differentiability, Applications of Derivatives, Integration aur Definite Integrals, Applications of Integrals, Differential Equations, Probability aur Probability Distributions, Statistics, Mathematical Logic, Linear Programming.
  • Biology (PCB group) — Botany side: plant physiology, photosynthesis aur respiration, plant growth, reproduction in plants, genetics aur molecular basis of inheritance, biotechnology, ecology aur ecosystems. Zoology side: human physiology (digestion, circulation, excretion, nervous aur endocrine control), reproduction aur reproductive health, evolution, human health aur diseases, animal husbandry aur applied biology.

Question count, section-wise marks, duration aur negative marking scheme — yeh sab cyclical details hain aur badal sakte hain, isliye inhe official notification se confirm karein. Jo evergreen baat hai: exam ka bulk Class 12 syllabus se aata hai, par Class 11 ke chapters ignore karne layak kabhi nahi hote, kyunki Physics aur Chemistry ke basics wahin se aate hain.

Preparation strategy

Early phase — foundation aur syllabus mapping. Sabse pehla kaam padhna nahi, list banana hai. Official syllabus document kholiye aur har subject ke chapters ko ek sheet par utaar lijiye, saath me apni HSC board ki textbook ke chapter numbers map kar dijiye. Isse do fayde hain: aapko turant dikh jaata hai ki board aur CET me kya overlap hai (bahut zyada hai), aur kaunse chapters aapke school me late aane wale hain. Is phase me State Board/NCERT textbook ko primary source rakhiye, har chapter ke baad uske hi exercise questions solve kijiye, aur ek “formula + exception” notebook shuru kijiye — Physics ke formulas, Chemistry ke reagents/named reactions, Maths ke standard results. Yeh notebook aap final phase me 200 baar khologe, isliye ise saaf aur chapter-wise rakhiye.

Middle phase — accuracy aur chapter-wise MCQ volume. CET MCQ exam hai, aur MCQ ki apni skill hoti hai jo theory padhne se apne aap nahi aati. Har chapter khatam hone ke baad usi din ka rule banaiye: kam se kam 40-50 MCQs us chapter ke, timed. Har galat answer ko teen buckets me daaliye — (1) concept hi nahi pata tha, (2) concept pata tha par calculation/silly mistake, (3) pata tha par time zyada laga. Teeno ka ilaaj alag hai: pehle ke liye theory dobara, doosre ke liye rough work ka discipline, teesre ke liye shortcut/standard form yaad karna. Yeh error-bucket habit hi wo cheez hai jo do barabar-padhne wale students ke score me farq laati hai. Is phase me Maths me speed par kaam shuru kijiye — determinants, integration ke standard forms, trigonometric identities, aur probability ke common patterns aise hain jinhe pattern-recognition se solve karna padta hai, derive karke nahi.

Middle-to-late phase — full-length mock tests, CBT mode me hi. Yeh non-negotiable hai. Paper computer par hota hai, to practice bhi screen par honi chahiye — paper par mock dene wale students exam day par navigation, question-palette aur rough-sheet handling me time waste karte hain. Har mock ke baad analysis me utna hi time dijiye jitna test dene me laga. Analysis ka matlab sirf score dekhna nahi hai: dekhiye kaunse section me aapne zarurat se zyada minute diye, kitne questions aapne “attempt hi nahi kiye jabki aate the”, aur kitne aise the jahan aapne guess kiya. Guessing ka faisla marking/negative-marking scheme par depend karta hai, isliye current scheme official notification se confirm karke apni guessing policy pehle hi decide kar lijiye — exam ke beech me yeh sochna sabse mehnga hai.

Final phase — revision, consolidation, koi naya source nahi. Aakhri stretch me naya reference book ya naya test series kharidna ulta nuksan karta hai. Apni formula notebook, apne galat question ka register, aur apne pehle diye gaye mocks — bas yeh teen. Ek do-teen din ka revision cycle banaiye jisme poora syllabus repeat ho. Chemistry ke inorganic aur organic portions ko last 10-15 din me zyada frequency se touch kijiye kyunki yeh memory-heavy hain aur jaldi phisalte hain. Physics aur Maths me daily kam se kam ek timed set zaroor lagayein taaki haath “thanda” na ho.

Board exam ke saath balance. Maharashtra ke students ke liye yeh sabse real problem hai — HSC boards aur CET ka window paas-paas hota hai. Achhi baat yeh hai ki syllabus largely same hai, to conflict utna nahi jitna lagta hai. Practical approach: theory aur derivations board-style likh kar padhiye (isse boards cover hote hain), aur usi chapter ka MCQ set lagakar CET-mode me convert kar lijiye. Board ke baad wala gap CET ke liye pure revision + mock window maan kar chaliye, naya syllabus start karne ke liye nahi. Aur agar aap JEE Main bhi de rahe hain, to JEE ko “upar ka level” maaniye — par CET ke liye alag se state-board-specific chapters aur wo topics dekhiye jo JEE me nahi aate par CET syllabus me hain (jaise Maths me Mathematical Logic aur Linear Programming type portions).

Common galtiyan

  • Sirf JEE material se CET ki taiyari karna. JEE books bahut se CET-relevant state board topics ko skip kar deti hain. Iske bajaye: base HSC/NCERT textbook rakhiye aur JEE material ko extra practice ki tarah use kijiye, replacement ki tarah nahi.
  • Class 11 ko “purana syllabus” maankar chhod dena. Mechanics, mole concept, trigonometry, periodic table — inke bina Class 12 ke questions bhi nahi bante. Iske bajaye: Class 11 ke high-yield chapters ko revision list me permanently rakhiye, bhale hi weightage kam ho.
  • Mock tests paper par dena ya bilkul na dena. CBT interface ki apni friction hoti hai. Iske bajaye: kam se kam last 8-10 hafte har hafte ek full-length CBT-mode mock, same timing par jis time actual slot ho sakta hai.
  • Percentile aur raw marks ko ek samajhna. Multi-shift exam me result normalised percentile me aata hai, isliye “maine itne marks nikaale” se merit position ka andaza galat nikalta hai. Iske bajaye: mock analysis me apni relative position (percentile trend) track kijiye, sirf score nahi.
  • Analysis skip karna — “agli baar accha kar lunga”. Bina error-log ke wahi galti mahine bhar repeat hoti hai. Iske bajaye: har mock ke galat questions ko concept / silly / time ke buckets me daaliye aur hafte ke end me sirf bucket-1 ke concepts dobara padhiye.
  • CAP ko exam ke baad ka “formality” samajhna. Kam options bharna ya sirf famous colleges bharna har saal students ko seat se door karta hai. Iske bajaye: result se pehle hi college-branch shortlist banana shuru kijiye, aur option form me realistic + ambitious + safe, teeno tarah ke choices generously bhariye.
  • Documents last moment par arrange karna. Domicile, caste validity, non-creamy layer, income certificate — inme se kuch issue hone me hafte lagte hain. Iske bajaye: application bharte hi document checklist bana lijiye aur jo missing hai uska process turant shuru kar dijiye. Required documents ki exact list official notification se confirm karein.

FAQs

MHT CET kaun conduct karta hai?

Ise State Common Entrance Test Cell, Government of Maharashtra conduct karta hai. Yahi cell Maharashtra ke doosre professional course entrance exams aur unka centralised admission process bhi handle karta hai. Official notifications, syllabus aur admission-related circulars hamesha CET Cell ki apni website par publish hote hain.

PCM aur PCB group me kya farq hai — mujhe kaunsa dena chahiye?

PCM group (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) mainly engineering aur technology courses ke liye hai, jabki PCB group (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) pharmacy aur agriculture-side courses ke liye use hota hai. Decide apne target course se kijiye, exam ki “aasani” se nahi. Dono dene ka option rehta hai agar aapne Class 12 me Maths aur Biology dono padhi hain, par tab preparation load bhi dono ka uthana padega. Eligibility ki exact condition official notification se confirm karein.

Kya MHT CET clear karne se seedha admission mil jaata hai?

Nahi. CET score aapko merit list aur CAP (Centralised Admission Process) me entry deta hai. Seat CAP ke round-wise allotment se milti hai, jisme aapki choice-filling, category, domicile aur document verification sab matter karte hain. Isliye exam ke baad CAP stage ko utni hi seriously lijiye jitna exam ko.

Syllabus HSC board jaisa hi hai ya alag?

Broadly yeh Maharashtra HSC syllabus par based rehta hai, isliye board ki padhai aur CET ki padhai me kaafi overlap hai. Lekin format alag hai — board me descriptive answers likhne hote hain, CET MCQ-based computer test hai jahan speed aur accuracy decide karti hai. Chapter-wise exact syllabus, Class 11 vs Class 12 weightage aur kisi bhi change ke liye current official syllabus document hi dekhein.

Kya CBSE/ICSE background wale students nuksan me rehte hain?

Structurally nahi — concepts wahi hain. Farq sirf presentation aur emphasis ka hota hai: state board textbooks kuch topics ko alag depth ya alag terminology se treat karti hain, aur kuch portions (jaise Maths me Mathematical Logic type topics) unke apne course me alag tarah aate hain. Practical solution yeh hai ki apni regular books ke saath Maharashtra HSC textbook bhi ek baar chapter-wise scan kar lein aur jo topics ya treatment naye lagein unhe alag se cover karein.
