Class 3 Mathematics • Maths Mela • Chapter 3 • 2026–27
Answer-first chapter overview
Numbers up to 200 become easier when they are organised into hundreds, tens and ones. Estimation gives a sensible first answer before exact counting.
Learning goals
Students practise estimation, numbers to 200, bundles and place value, sequences, number lines and comparison. The emphasis is on explaining a method, checking an answer and using mathematics in familiar situations.
Worked example
176 means 1 hundred, 7 tens and 6 ones. It lies between 170 and 180 and is closer to 180.
Hands-on activity
Collect about 100 small safe items. Estimate first, then count them in groups of ten.
Practice questions
- Write 143 in hundreds, tens and ones.
- Continue: 165, 175, 185, __, __.
- Place 128 and 182 on a number line and compare them.
How should a student use this page?
Try the activity first, solve all three questions without copying, then explain one answer aloud. Use drawings, counters or a number line whenever they make the reasoning clearer.
Is this a substitute for the NCERT book?
