Class 3 Mathematics • Maths Mela • Chapter 7 • 2026–27
Answer-first chapter overview
Multiplication is a quick way to describe equal groups. Arrays show the same total in rows and columns and help connect repeated addition with multiplication.
Learning goals
Students practise equal groups, repeated addition, multiplication notation, arrays, early sharing and story problems. The emphasis is on explaining a method, checking an answer and using mathematics in familiar situations.
Worked example
Four groups of 3 make 12: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12, so 4 × 3 = 12.
Hands-on activity
Arrange 20 counters into different equal groups. Record every grouping that works without leftovers.
Practice questions
- Write 5 + 5 + 5 as multiplication.
- Draw an array for 3 × 4.
- Share 18 objects equally among 3 children.
How should a student use this page?
Try the activity first, solve all three questions without copying, then explain one answer aloud. Use drawings, counters or a number line whenever they make the reasoning clearer.
Is this a substitute for the NCERT book?
