Class 3 Mathematics • Maths Mela • Chapter 13 • 2026–27
Answer-first chapter overview
Calendars organise days into weeks, months and years, while clocks measure time within a day. Duration tells how long an activity lasts.
Learning goals
Students practise calendar, months, days, weeks, years, clocks, hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, minutes and duration. The emphasis is on explaining a method, checking an answer and using mathematics in familiar situations.
Worked example
A class starts at 9:00 and ends at 9:45, so its duration is 45 minutes, or three quarter-hours.
Hands-on activity
Make a one-day timeline showing wake-up, school, play, study and sleep times.
Practice questions
- How many days are in two weeks?
- What time is half an hour after 4:15?
- Find the duration from 10:30 to 11:15.
How should a student use this page?
Try the activity first, solve all three questions without copying, then explain one answer aloud. Use drawings, counters or a number line whenever they make the reasoning clearer.
Is this a substitute for the NCERT book?
