Class 3 Mathematics • Maths Mela • Chapter 14 • 2026–27
Answer-first chapter overview
Fairs contain rich mathematical ideas: repeated designs, symmetric art, tiled surfaces and routes shown on maps. Clear symbols and directions help other people navigate.
Learning goals
Students practise symmetry, mirror images, repeating and tiling patterns, maps, symbols, directions, routes and spatial navigation. The emphasis is on explaining a method, checking an answer and using mathematics in familiar situations.
Worked example
A design has line symmetry when folding along a line makes its two halves match. A route can be described with turns and landmarks.
Hands-on activity
Draw a simple fair map with an entrance, four stalls, a first-aid point and arrows showing one route.
Practice questions
- Draw a shape with one line of symmetry.
- Continue a two-colour repeating pattern.
- Give directions from your map entrance to the first-aid point.
How should a student use this page?
Try the activity first, solve all three questions without copying, then explain one answer aloud. Use drawings, counters or a number line whenever they make the reasoning clearer.
Is this a substitute for the NCERT book?
No. This is an independently written learning companion for revision and practice. The official textbook remains the prescribed source.
